Turt Kid Raphael (better known as "Lapael" nowadays) are alright! Thank God! We had a little shock when Raphael Boy did not shed properly and he begin to retain scutes! The shedding process began a little about two weeks ago and more parts of his shells are beginning to get all silver-ly looking, so I got a bit sensitive and scared (read too much details from the internet as well) when I saw Raphael started to develop some dark spots underneath the scutes! I began looking for vets around my area here in Johor!
I told my husband about it and realized that it was quite difficult to find a reptile pet! I began calling the list prepared by Malaysian Veterinary Department and many of the vets told me that they do not treat turtles! Red eared sliders are reptile so they do not do reptiles but more to dogs, cats, birds and rabbits! I even found a fish vet! I called almost half of the list when finally i manage to find a vet that said he treat reptile (turtles) Yay! I was way happy!
Hubby and I brought Raphael to the vet on Saturday! Oh my! Raphael isn't tense at all! I put him in a tub and he was having so much fun walking around the tub on our way to the vet! Got his name registered and in he went to see doctor! There! There! Naughty Raphael! He wasn't afraid when the doc lifted him up and to get some samples to test out the spots! He was walking to and fro and up and down the tub! For almost 20 mins the doc picked him up and checked on him! All the spots swabbed and were examined. After a while the test came back and thank God, Raphael is OK! Everything looks normal and doc even said Raphael is healthy as can be and active little buddy! The dark spots apparently is normal pigmentation found commonly on male turtle! So we paid the bill and went home happy!
Am really glad that Raphael is ok! As of today, Monday, Raphael had shed off three of the scutes and two more are coming off! Well it was me who overreacted then! But better to get him properly checked than to assume things! After all the bill is MYR60 and it is better than worrying about it all day long!
Overall it is good that we found a vet for Lapael and Dona so to make sure they get proper care!
Here they go at it again! Raphael and Dona doing their weekend turtles walk session with "human-papa"! Husband disallowing Raphael to go into the guest rooms because Raphael will roam into the hard to reach area and we will have difficulties getting him! See police traffic asking Turtle Trooper Number 1 to turn around! Suprisingly he did turned around and walked to his left exploring other areas of the home! Naughty boy!
